Essential Question: What are the differences between the Question and Answer Style and Story Style types of interviews.
Class directions: In class today:  As stated last week, you are writing a compare / contrast essay between the styles and techniques in the Malcolm X and Elvis Costello or Adolf Hitler interviews.

Assignment: Compare (that is similarities) and contrast

(that is differences) of the two interviewing techniques

used in interviewing Malcolm X and Elvis Costello or

Adolf Hitler, noting their effectiveness and types of

questions that are asked...or implied by the

responses...and how the interviewers respond to their

subjects.  You may only use your notes. You no longer

have access to the articles. The length

 should be approximately 400 words.

Send the completed essay along by midnight Tuesday, along with your notes. The essay counts as a writing grade (50% category), whilst the notes are a participation (40% category).

As a refresher, these were the primary compare / contrast points that you were to take notes on:
1. Note the types of questions used; look for examples from the interviews.
2. word choices of the interviewer (select a few and make an analytical observation- remember these are notes; you do not need complete sentences.)
3. comments on the surroundings
4. how they handled delicate questions (like what?)
5. how they demonstrated they were listening and attuned to Malcolm X and Costello or Hitler.

6. In the Costello or Hitler interview, how were the interviewee's words integrated into the story

Make sure to weave in textual evidence.
